Winter Skin Care Essentials
In the wintertime, your skin needs your attention. The cold can take a toll on our epidermis, and we want to make sure we take precautions to protect and care for it.
The most important gift you can give to your skin in the wintertime is extra moisture, because it’s craving it. Here are some winter skincare essentials that your skin will thank you for.
Protective moisturizing oil
There are many different natural oil products out there. The theory behind putting extra oil in your skin in the wintertime is to replenish and revitalize dry skin; this is particularly important if you have eczema. Don’t be afraid to put natural carrier oils on your face! They don’t clog pores and they absorb quickly into the skin.

For example, I use my Moisturizing Facial Serum every day. The ingredients include almond oil, jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil, and organic essential oils like sandalwood, rose, and jasmine. This product is wonderful for soothing irritated over-worked skin. Here are some of its other benefits:
Vitamins A, B, C, D and E neutralize aging free radicals and fight wrinkles.
High in beta-carotene, which makes your skin less sensitive to the sun (doesn’t replace your SPF, though!)
Helps to eliminate free radicals, which damage the skin
Moisturizing without clogging your pores.
Minimizes dark circles under the eye.
Promotes healthy skin cell rejuvenation – perfect for dull skin.
Helps eliminate the appearance of dark spots.
Contains essential fatty acids – Omega 3 & 6
Absorbs quickly. Won’t feel heavy on your face.
Our skin is working overtime in the winter months to protect our bodies. That’s why it’s important to reward it by giving it some extra oil back. As an added bonus, it makes your skin appear younger. Make sure to add some oil under your tired eyes to make you appear rejuvenated.
Natural Sunscreen
It’s not the summertime, but your skin still needs protection from the sun. Your skin is also at risk for sun damage during the winter months, so it’s important to shelter your face with a natural sunscreen.
Origins makes an excellent sunscreen and moisturizer called A Perfect World. It’s SPF 25 and it smells amazing. A Perfect World is infused with White Tea and protects against sun damage from UVA and UVB rays effectively. It’s a light cream and it makes your face feel amazing.
Humidifiers
One all-natural way to make your skin appear healthy is use a humidifier daily. Humidifiers put moisture into the air during the winter months when your skin needs it the most. Humidifiers ensure that our skin gets back that moisture that it’s craving the most.
Before you go to bed at night when it’s cold outside, switch on that humidifier and let it do the work for you.
Oatmeal and Baking Soda Baths
During the winter months, all we want to do is stay warm. It’s tempting to get into a steaming hot bath, however, be careful about the temperature of your bath water. If your bath is too hot, it will inevitably dry out your skin. Lukewarm baths using all-natural ingredients such as oatmeal and baking soda are a better choice.
Essential Winter Household Products
The crucial thing to remember in the winter is — stay moisturized. Here are some natural products to keep in the house to lock that moisture in:
Coconut oil — You can lock in moisture from your skin to your hair using this magical all-natural ingredient. Coconut oil is great at treating itchy scalp, eczema, and can be used as an all-natural facial moisturizer. Some people even brush their teeth with the stuff!
Raw Honey – Using raw honey on your skin during the wintertime helps prevent acne breakouts and locks moisture in effectively.
Avocado – Try using an avocado face mask once a week to help your skin regain lost moisture. Combine 2 teaspoons of mashed avocado, 1 tablespoon of raw honey, and one 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Leave on your face for 20-30 minutes. Rinse off the mask moisturize as normal.
Stay Warm and Moisturize By Any Means Necessary
Remember to bundle up, stay warm and keep moisturized! Your skin will thank you.
